Liaising with Southwark Council and the Police
We maintain regular contact with Southwark Council, the Chaucer Ward Safer Neighbourhood Panel and other local bodies to represent our members’ interests.
Southwark Council
Trinity Village is in Southwark’s Chaucer Ward, which itself is part of Borough, Bankside and Walworth Community Council. We discuss matters with our local councillors.
Rubbish and recycling
TNRA liaises with the Council and Knight Frank to provide better recycling and refuse collection services as well as refuse storage facilities. We also encourage our members to play their part in following the Council’s recycling and refuse weekly collection instructions. Please take care to:
put out refuse for collection at the correct time, (either in the late evening before or early in the morning of the collection day);
only use containers as advised and provided by the Council so as to avoid animals (dogs, cats, rats, squirrels and foxes) breaking into bags and thereby spilling the contents over the pavement, causing unnecessary work for the street sweeper and making the estate look very unattractive;
all rubbish should be bagged before being placed in wheelie bins;
ensure that only the correct items (check the side of the bags) are placed in the recycling bags;
clean food cartons and tins before bagging them.
Southwark Council provides bins and recycling bags for tenants'/residents' rubbish. Please check the Southwark council website for your street collection date.
Traffic, cycling, parking and congestion charge
Traffic: We campaigned for many years to persuade the Council to introduce measures to calm and reduce motor traffic through the estate, culminating in the installation in 2002 of gates on Trinity Street and the closure of through traffic to and from Great Dover Street. More recently we succeeded in halting the Council’s proposal in October 2019 to route Borough High Street southbound traffic needing to turn left into Harper Road via Trinity Church Square.
Cycling: In 2015 Trinity Street became part of a Quietways cycle route. TNRA actively supports the use of cycles by Trinity Village residents. As such we have succeeded in having cycle racks installed in Merrick Square and Falmouth Road. We are also urging Knight Frank to increase safe cycle storage on the estate.
Parking: The estate is in Southwark Council's Controlled Parking Zone D (CPZ D).
Congestion charge: We are in the congestion charge and zero-emissions zone.
Noise problems
Please report any noise issues to Southwark council. To assist them:
keep a continuous record of the problems you're experiencing and call the noise team on 020 7525 7777 every single time it occurs. Alternatively, report the problem online via the above link;
get your neighbours to do the same.
It helps if the noise team can hear the noise for themselves when you phone them, so stand close to the source of the noise and/or open your windows when the noise occurs.
The noise team will turn up with a machine to measure the decibels. Be prepared for delays - but do keep calling the team if they don't turn up within the timescale they give you.
The team will speak to those responsible for the problem so long as they are still making a noise and the noise can be clearly heard.
Local building and development planning applications
We monitor and make your views known on all building and development proposals and plans that may affect the estate, both within Trinity Village itself and in the immediate vicinity. In the recent past, this has involved our making submissions concerning the constriction of Trinity Village’s new apartments in Swan Street/Harper Road and the Dickens Square Park redevelopment. Current developments and planning applications we are involved include those for the corner of Falmouth Road/Harper Road and the corner of Borough High Street/Harper Road.
Policing and crime
TNRA meets with our local police every two months during the Chaucer Ward Safer Neighbourhood Panel meetings to discuss current issues. If you have a concern you would like us to raise please email nw@tnra.net
The Safer Neighbourhood initiative which includes our Chaucer ward in its work also involves residents working with police to identify and tackle crime and safety concerns in their local area. TNRA similarly ensures that our members' interests are properly considered by those concerned.
Please make sure to report the crime to the police in the first instance, and then email TNRA at info@tnra.net with the date of any crime and, critically, your crime/incident number. This information will remain private to TNRA and will only be shared with the police and councillors to support our case for action to be taken. If of serious concern, call 101 or 999 in an emergency.
If you have concerns for someone sleeping rough, ring 0300 500 0914 or send an alert to www.streetlink.org.uk.
