Street Party

  • Trinity Church Square England, SE1 4HT United Kingdom (map)

At ludicrously short notice the Council invited residents all over the borough to organise under the auspices of its Streets for People programme street parties in support of the forthcoming World Car-Free Day.

Thinking this to be a worthy cause that deserves support we applied last week for the road on the northern side of Trinity Church Square to be closed on Sunday 22 September between Nos 45 to 67. The Council have replied Yes! and have agreed that the road will be closed between 10.00am to 6.00pm, during which time only emergency vehicle access will be allowed.

We have much to do in a very short time! On the day itself we will place tables and chairs in the street; set up bric-a-brac, book and other stalls; and organise various fun diversions (e.g. a treasure hunt for the kids, races for the kids, a competition for dogs and their owners etc.).

We’ll provide further details in due course, but in the meantime do:

* come along on the day itself with food and drink to celebrate and support the cause;

* propose/provide your very own entertainment (music, conjuring tricks, whatever);

* suggest any ideas you may have to help make it an enjoyable and memorable occasion;

* help us set up and clear away on the day.
